Studies on the Interspecific Hybrids of Cucurbita Species (2)

Abstract
We performed interspecific hybrids to combine the prematurity and knotting of Cucurbita pepo L. with sweetness and delicacy of fruit flesh which C. moschata Duch has.
The results were summarized as follows:
(1) The fertility of progeny of interspecific hybrids was ascended by means of continual selection according to generations.
(2) It was difficult for us to sustain and fix the intermediate types of plant and fruit shape because their variability was so strong.
(3) As to fruit length, We could easily fix on intermediate fruit length of parents, but colours were fixed very variably from light yellow, green mottle, to dark green.
(4) Combination of interspecific lines were accomplished premature and has more knotting than 50%, compared with parents.
(5) In F©û combination ability test, reciprocal combination of interspecific lines are more excellent than reciprocal combination of local varieties and combination of interspecific line and local variety and has significance for yields in 5% and 1% degree L.S.D, compared with cultivar, especially in early yields.
(6) We nomenclatured the F©û combination by means of interspecific lines which has prematurity, good knotting delicious flesh, and adaptability to all season culture as BULAM SACHEOL AEHOBAK.
